Thanks to our friends at Breeders’ Cup, HorseTourneys is delighted to offer — for the first time ever — a special, high-end Pick & Pray tourney focused on horse racing’s championship weekend. Appropriately enough, we are calling it the Breeders’ Cup Pick & Pray.
This year’s Breeders’ Cup will be hosted at Del Mar on Friday, October 31 and Saturday, November 1.

The Breeders’ Cup Pick & Pray will require participants to make mythical $2.00 win-and-place selections on every race from Del Mar across the two days. In keeping with the popular Pick & Pray format, each day’s selections must be made in their entirety prior to the running of the day’s first race. The winner(s) will be those who accumulate the highest total score across the two days—subject to customary payoff caps of 20-1 ($42.00) for win and 10-1 ($22.00) for place.
The Breeders’ Cup Pick & Pray will carry an entry fee of $2,000, and a guaranteed purse of $300,000. Direct qualifiers for the event will be offered at HorseTourneys throughout 2025. They will begin this weekend.
This new Breeders’ Cup tourney was designed as a $2,000 Pick & Pray for a number of reasons.
We feel that the entry fee is one that will generate high-stakes excitement, while simultaneously making it accessible to a much larger number of potential participants—as compared to a $10,000 event.
It is also important, we believe, to offer something that doesn’t mirror too closely the exceedingly popular Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge. Live-format tournaments and Live-bankroll contests each have their devoted followers—and so do Pick & Pray competitions. The new Breeders’ Cup Pick & Pray is an offering primarily with that latter group in mind.
Of course, plenty of players will dive into contests regardless of format. For those who might want to compete in both the Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge and the new Breeders’ Cup Pick & Pray, we think the fact that one is a Live contest and one is a Pick & Pray will allow people to play both without things becoming overly onerous.
In the minds of many, the best racing makes for the best contests. Now there’s a lucrative contest on the biggest weekend of the racing year in a format that a high percentage of you enjoy most. We’re now extra excited for Breeders’ Cup—and we hope you are too.
